Timothy Chandler spent time in the Eintracht Frankfurt academy, but switched to Nurnberg prior to the 2010/11 season. After spending the first half of the season as a regular with Nurnberg's reserve team, he made his first appearance for the senior team in a DFB Pokal match in January 2011. Later that week, he made his Bundesliga debut.
Chandler's strong play continued through the spring as he eventually established himself as Nurnberg's top right back. He maintained his starting spot at the beginning of the 2011/12 season.
After Nurnberg's relegation to the 2.Bundesliga in 2014, Chandler signed a three-year contract with Eintracht Frankfurt.
The son of a German woman and an American serviceman, Chandler is a German-American eligible for both countries.
Chandler made his debut for the US national team in March 2011 in a pair of friendlies against Argentina and Paraguay. He controversially missed out on the 2011 Gold Cup after his club requested that he stay in Germany so as to be fully rested for preseason. Chandler rejoined the US team in September 2011 for two friendlies against Costa Rica and Belgium.
