After training with the U-17 national team in Bradenton, Florida, Brek Shea signed a contract with MLS and became the 2nd overall pick in the 2008 MLS draft.
Shea showed significant year-to-year progression at Dallas, moving from a rarely used rookie in 2008 to a frequent sub in 2009 to the starting lineup in 2010. In 2011, Shea enjoyed his breakout season, scoring 11 goals and leading a Dallas offense that had lost David Ferreira to injury. Shea was an MLS All-Star and a league MVP candidate.
In 2012, Shea's production dipped as he grappled with greater expectations and played through various injuries. Nonetheless, in January 2013 he completed a transfer to Stoke City.
Shea has featured with the US national team at every level from U-17 to U-20 to U-23 to the senior team.
