A soccer nomad, Kronholm would go through a few youth teams before ending up at Wolfsburg. In 2005, he was released by the team, which then led to his odyssey around the German soccer league system. He has made stops at Fortuna Dusseldorf, FSV Frankfurt, Hansa Rostock, Eintracht Trier, Waldhof Mannheim and Jahn Regensburg.
The netminder then found a home at Holstein Kiel as he signed a contract with the team in July 2014.
In the 2016-2017 3. Liga season, he helped the team earn promotion the 2. Bundesliga. That was followed by near promotion to the Bundesliga in their maiden season in the second tier, only to fall to Wolfsburg in the pro/rel playoff in May 2018.
Kronholm is eligible to represent both Germany and the United States. He has never received a call up to the US national team at any level.
