JAMIE HILL - Tuesday, January 18, 2011
Beginning this week, Yanks Abroad will publish a weekly recap of American players eligible for US youth national teams. Players listed under U-23 are eligible for the 2012 Olympics, U-20s are eligible for the 2011 U-20 World Cup, and the U-18s are eligible for the 2013 U-20 World Cup.

Like always, some players will play up if they have the ability to do so; many players on the current U-20 team will be strong candidates for the U-23 Olympic team.

* Adrian Ruelas scored two goals in his first game back with Santos Laguna U20

* Timothy Chandler appeared in Nürnberg's first team squad for the first time ever, although he didn't play.

It's not that the scouting stinks however, have to ask why these kids have to go downsouth to seek developmental academies attached to a professional organization. It's the same reason why Wynalda is working with a team from Michoacan. He is actually scouting and giving american youth the opportunity extended to them by a Mexican club.
