American Joe Enochs has been announced interim head coach for 2. Bundesliga club VfFL Osnabruck where he starred as a player before retiring in 2008.

Enochs, 39, played in 359 games for VfL Osnabruck and scored 10 goals with his most famous goal coming against Bayern Munich in the German Cup. Following his retirement, the club renamed the west end of the stadium after the Californian.

Sacramento State product Enochs earned one cap for the US national team when he came on as a 67th minute sub for Tony Sanneh in a 0-0 friendly draw against Ecuador on June 7, 2001.

Enoch's primary task ahead of him will be to lead VFL Osnabruck out of the relegation zone. They currently sit in 16th place in the 18 team league with 25 points.

To remain in the 2. Bundesliga, VFL Osnabruck must climb to 14th place which is currently held by Ingolstadt who have 27 points.

Enochs follows former SV Elversberg boss Brent Goulet as the only American head coaches in the top three divisions of German soccer.
