FC Nürnberg announced on their website Thursday that Timmy Chandler has incurred a foot injury. The 21 year-old suffered a laceration to the instep of his right foot during training and will miss the team's daunting trip on Saturday to league leaders Borussia Dortmund.
The right back will likely be replaced by Juri Judt, the Kazakhstan-born German whom Chandler supplanted in the starting lineup earlier this spring. It is unclear whether the injury could cause him to miss any more time in the coming weeks.
Chandler's injury comes at a crucial time for Nürnberg, who are challenging for a place in next season's Europa League. With a mere three games remaining on the calendar, the club is currently sitting just two points behind Mainz in the battle for fifth place and the Bundesliga's final Europa League slot.
Saturday's road game against the almost-crowned Bundesliga champions - who could mathematically seal up the title by game's end - stands to be their toughest test of the season. They return home to host Hoffenheim the following Saturday, then close out the season on the road one week later against Hannover 96.
