BRIAN SCIARETTA - Thursday, January 19, 2012
Only 10 days after they finished playing for the US U-20 team, Juan Ocegueda and Uvaldo Luna have been called up by Mexico U20s.

Both players play for Tigres and the website Solo Tigres broke the news on Wednesday night.

It is likely that both players will accept the callup and neither player will have to file a switch to play for Mexico at this time.

Ocegueda, a left back by nature, has seen extended time with the US over the past year and he was part of the 2011 Milk Cup team that finished in third place. He was considered to be a big piece of US U20 head coach Tab Ramos' plans moving forward in the U20 cycle.

Luna, 18, has seen occasional minutes in 2011 with the US U-18 team.

It is unclear where the international future for Luna and Ocegueda will be but this potential defection shows that the battle for Mexican-American talent will only intensify and it will be difficult for the US to compete against the popular El Tri.

They're just exploring their options. I'm sure they feel enough of a bond to both countries to feel comfortable choosing the one best for their career. Obviously it'd be great if they chose the US, but wtv, it's a pretty personal decision.

While it definitely sucks to lose talented dual nationals to Mexico, it sucks more to lose them when they'd already agreed to play for us.
