Today West Ham United announced that US U20 left back Danny Potts has been called up by England's U-18 national team.

The news should not come as a surprise to many fans because Potts' ties to the United States have always been thin.

Potts, 17, was born in England and has lived there his whole life. His American citizenship comes from his father who was born in the United States but who moved to England and played for the English U-21 national team.

Potts had been enjoying a breakout season in West Ham where he had been playing for the club's first team. In recent weeks, however, he had been playing for the reserves.

Potts has only played for the US on one occasion and that was last May when he was called up by the US U-20 national team for a pair of friendlies against France.

Isn't he also a cancer survivor, or am I getting the wrong individual?

Good for him! He deserves a call up to the U-18...his ties to the US are slim.

First off, I must admit, this is as much a plausible wish-list as it is an attempt to decipher Klinsmann's plan.
