Kiryat Shmona are on the verge of a remarkable title in Israel but the club is now in disarray after a fallout with between the owner and the coach.
Kiryat Shmona currently have a insurmountable 17 point lead with just seven games to play. They can possibly clinch the title next weekend in the first round of the seven game playoffs.
The last few weeks, however, have seen a falling out between head coach Ran Ben-Shimon and owner Izzy Sheratzky over the former's contract extension. The hold ups have come over money and a exit clause that would allow Shimon to leave Kiryat Shmona for Maccabi Haifa.
Shimon has now publically stated that he will not return next year, even for the Champions League qualifiers, and Sheratzky confirmed the news to the players. He has even said that Hapoel Petah Tikva head coach Gili Landau will take over.
American Bryan Gerzicich has been a force for Kiryat Shmona this season and has earned the reputation as one of the finest defensive midfielders in the country.
Despite his success there are rumors that Gerzicich may not even come back next year for the potential Champions League games as reports out of Israel indicate that top clubs in Israel are interested in signing the Los Angeles native.
