PREDICTED 29 PLAYER ROSTER

BRIAN SCIARETTA - Monday, May 14, 2012
Last weekend US head coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced he would call in 29 players into USMNT camp, here is my predicted roster.

The latest news that Klinsmann will call in 29 players allows him to be slightly more experimental and take a look at some younger players who are performing well. Also with MLS in full swing, there are some players who have stood out who deserve to be included.

According to Klinsmann, the first part of the roster will be announced on May 15 and that will consist of mostly European-based players. On May 20, the second part will be released and that will have mostly MLS players.

The US team will take on Scotland, Brazil, and Canada in friendlies. Followed by that, they will begin World Cup qualifying with games against Antigua & Barbuda and Guatemala.

With that said, here is who I have on the eve of the release for the first part of the roster

Chris Pontius does not play midfield for DCU anymore.. Internationally he seems a better fit to me at FWD as well.

If Shea, Rimando, and Dempsey are injured, then they might be out for the friendlies.
For a final 21 players with only two goalies, I would expect Cameron, Castillo, Beckerman, Pontius, and Corona to be left out.
If Dempsey and Shea are OK to play, and another goalie is brought in, that makes 24 players at camp.

There is no way Shea and Pontius get called in also I believe Boyd and Wooten will get called in. Also lol at Pdemelo who said Bob Bradley selected those kind of players funny but true it does look like a Bob roster.

It's time to work Beasley back into the squad. He's productive and experienced.

Each time I look at lists like this, I'm amazed at how many useful midfielders the US has. I'm also amazed at how few really quality defenders and forwards are on the roster.

Klinsmann must prove to josh GATT!!!!!!!!!!, its speed is the same as when Donovan started in the national team

freddy adu when this sheltered with more experienced players worked best

Pontius is a different player is driving at speed, great shot from long distance and knows how to define.

It's time already set a cushion team with more variants, we need more speed

Id much rather see Chandler move to his natural right as either a sub for Cherundolo (any doubts well need that at some point with his age/work rate?) or an attacking right midfield option instead of being forced/wasted on the left where hes only shown a fraction of what hes capable of when on the right at Nurnberg. Id rather see Spector/Lichaj/Ream competing for the left.

Bradley is the only sane option to hold/create in the middle. Beckerman is a defensive liability and we need the roster space for attacking options. Torres is the far better #2 to Bradley.

I agree Whitbread deserves a look but not sure if the time for that has passed. Gomez has earned a place and I dont see where he gets left behind with our lack of options up top. Beasley has had renaissance in Mexico. Hes a solid, experienced bench option on the left that knows how to frustrate an attack and still has plenty of speed. And he also doubles as a secondary option at LB in case of injuries.

----------------Jozy------------
------Demps---------Donovan
Shea---------------------Chandler
-------------Bradley---------
Johnson--Boca--Gooch---Dolo
-------------Howard-------------

If you need a defensive sub: Jermaine Jones for Shea, two DMs, Donovan goes wide left.

If you need an offensive sub: Kljestan for Chandler

Great lineup I just don't think Gooch should make the team due to injuries. Unfortunately that did in his great potential and career. Lichaj deserves a chance at his spot in defense.

It's good to see mls players invited to the training but they really aren't at the level for the world cup. This camp could help their careers for possible transfers down the road. I can't wait to see the upcoming friendlies.
