BRIAN SCIARETTA - Monday, May 14, 2012
Last weekend US head coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced he would call in 29 players into USMNT camp, here is my predicted roster.

The latest news that Klinsmann will call in 29 players allows him to be slightly more experimental and take a look at some younger players who are performing well. Also with MLS in full swing, there are some players who have stood out who deserve to be included.

According to Klinsmann, the first part of the roster will be announced on May 15 and that will consist of mostly European-based players. On May 20, the second part will be released and that will have mostly MLS players.

The US team will take on Scotland, Brazil, and Canada in friendlies. Followed by that, they will begin World Cup qualifying with games against Antigua & Barbuda and Guatemala.

With that said, here is who I have on the eve of the release for the first part of the roster

While the pool of players you've selected is a fair representation of what's likely to happen I think there are a few on your selection which I would personally leave off.
Defense: Leave off Parkhurst....I just don't see him really constributing to the NT going forward. In my eye's he's a "B" teamer and should really only see time during Camp Cup Cake. In his place I'd call in either Seb Hines (corting call up), Danny Williams (it was only a shoulder injury which is likely recovered, or very close. Wouldn't hurt to bring him in.), or Alfredo Morales (provides cover across the back line and CDM).
Midfield: Leave off Beckerman....Again a class "B" teamer for use in the January camps...just doesn't have the speed for the international game. Bring in another young attacking player as an option. I'd go with Gatt to see where his is in his development and get him introduced to the national team. Adu is another option that I'd be willing to try out.
Forward: Leave Wondo or Gomez home. Personally I'd leave Wondo since his club still has matches...but one of them needs to be dropped. They are basically the same player (Poacher) and you need another target player in case Jozy gets injured. Personally I'd go with Boyd.
Just my opinions

Sacha Kljestan tweeted that he is going to New York on Wednesday and then he's heading to Cali, so sounds like he's not going to Orlando.

I don't think Pontius or Corona will get called in, but I'd like to see Adu, Sapong, and Boyd get the call. Adu brings a quality (just watch highlights of yesterday's match) that we don't have much of in our pool of players. He runs at people and creates.R

I might be in the minority, but I think we need to bring in Adu. Way too many defensive minded middies on this list. MB, JJ, Edu, and KB? Its overkill to me. I'd swap KB for Adu. I havent seen a ton of him, but he was very impressive in Olympic Qualifying and he was owning the field yesterday against NYRB, prior to being sent off.

I dont get the Pontius hype. Solid player, dont get me wrong. He's coming off that injury from last year, so I think he needs to continue to prove, and improve, himself before getting a call. I'd rather see another young striker in this camp, preferably Boyd. While I understand he hasnt seen first team minutes, he's scoring a lot with the reserves while training with the Bundesliga champs during the week.

I also agree that Wondo probably deserves the callup, i'm just afraid he doesnt have the speed, both mentally & physically, for the national team. His previous USMNT appearances have showed that. But he's scoring, so why not.

I would leave off Kyle Beckerman and add another FWD: Cooper, Wooten, or Freddy Adu. But thats just me wanting the USMNT to be more attack minded.
