Twenty-five of the 30 SFL clubs today voted on the fate of the new Rangers FC and decided the club must begin in the Third Division.
The news was an enormous setback for the country's most prestigious team who, even if all goes well, will not be able to return to the Scottish Premier league for at least four years. But it also puts the future of its current players in jeopardy who are all surely looking to move elsewhere.
Rangers have three Americans on their roster in Carlos Bocanegra, Alejandro Bedoya, and Maurice Edu. It is very unlikely that any remain with the club as they are now at the semi-pro levels.
Rangers have been mired in a financial downfall this past year and the old Rangers company which was founded in 1872 dissolved last month and were replaced with a entirely new company.
The new company will not be able to carry with it the 54 Scottish title or any other silverware earned by the previous club.
Our very success, gained you will agree by skill, will draw more people than ever to see it. And that will benefit many more clubs than Rangers. Let the others come after us. We welcome the chase. It is healthy for us. We will never hide from it. Never fear, inevitably we shall have our years of failure, and when they arrive, we must reveal tolerance and sanity. No matter the days of anxiety that come our way, we shall emerge stronger because of the trials to be overcome. That has been the philosophy of the Rangers since the days of the gallant pioneers. ~ William Struth
