US U-20 defender Will Packwood received good news this week when he was named to Birmingham's first team roster for the new season.

Packwood, 19, has been a regular with Birmingham City's reserve team but he has yet to make a first team appearance for Birmingham City but he did make the bench on one occasion last year during an FA Cup match against Chelsea. Prior to the start of last year, he signed a two year professional contract.

Birmingham City head coach Lee Clark announced that Packwood will wear number 24 for the Blues this season. During the preseason, Packwood has featured with the first team and recently played a full 90 in a 5-1 win over Bury.

It is unclear what position the Boston native will play however. Naturally he was developed as a central defensive midfielder but last year he made the transition towards central defense. During the preseason he has played both positions.

Yes he is but has been injured since the end of last season. Packwood made his debut on Tuesday night in a League Cup match v Barnet at Right Back deputising for Spector. He had a good game but picked up an injury in the 2nd half and had to go off.

Is Spector still out there as well?
