BRIAN SCIARETTA - Sunday, March 3, 2013
Over the weekend Jozy Altidore scored his 24th for AZ Alkmaar setting a record for an American player in Europe.

The previous record was set just last year by Fulham's Clint Dempsey who scored 23 goals across all competitions for the Premier League club.

This year, Atlidore has scored 17 Eredivisie goals and seven Dutch Cup goals for 24 goals in all competitions. With 10 games remaining, it is possible he could approach an astonishing 30 goals for the year.

The news is not all great for Altidore, however, as AZ Alkmaar lost the game to RKC Waalwijk 2-1 and now sits precariously close to the relegation playoff zone. At just 25 points, all they separates them from Roda JC and the bottom three is goal differential.

Relegation threat or not, the likelihood that Altidore will return to AZ Alkmaar next year seems to dwindle with his continued success as clubs from top leagues in Europe are surely taking notice ahead of the summer transfer window.
