YA has heard that American midfielder Korey Veeder will be on trial with Crystal Palace of the the English Championship.
The 18-year old native of St. Petersburg, Florida has been part of the USA youth system in the past, starting in 2007 when he was a Bradenton resident. According to US Soccer, the last time he was with the squad was in January 2009 when Under-18 coach Mike Matkovic held a 72-player mega-camp at the Home Depot Center.
Veeder's club team, The Clearwater Chargers, announced he was going on trial with Crystal Palace and that the trial would be coordinated through Crystal Palace USA in Baltimore. I was able to confirm the trial with the director of communications for Crystal Palace USA, James Calder, but as of now, the trial had not started yet.
Crystal Palace has been gradually trying to enter into the American market, founded in 2007 as a USL team. Its head coach, Jim Cherneski , also serves as the head North American scout for Crystal Palace and last week, announced it will leave the USL and will play in the brand new NASL .
Could Veeder be Cherneski's first American signing? We will soon find out.
