BRIAN SCIARETTA - Monday, March 15, 2010
Later this month, the US U20 National Team will participate in the 2010 Dallas Cup which is the premier youth tournament in the country.
Just this past week the schedule for the tournament was announced and the US has been drawn into Group D along the Mexican U20 National Team, the Vancouver Whitecaps, and Eintracht Frankfurt.
The most anticipated matchup for the USA will be on the tournament's opening night on Sunday, March 28 at 7:00pm where they will face Mexico at Pizza Hut Park Stadium.
The following day on March 29 at 2:00pm, the US will then face the Vancouver Whitecaps who will be lead by American prospects Joseph Gyau and Charles Renken.
After a day off, the USA will conclude group play on March 31 with a game against the youth team of Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.
Advancing to the semifinals will be difficult for the US because in the Dallas Cup only the top teams from each group qualify. Should the US win Group D, they will play in the semifinals on Friday, April 2. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, April 4.
The roster for the US team is expected to be announced soon. YA has learned that US U20 head coach Thomas Rongen is trying to secure the release of several European based players however not all of the players' clubs are said to be eager in releasing players for this tournament.
Yanks Abroad will have writers in Dallas for the opening days of the tournament cover the US team and their games against Mexico and Vancouver.
