RJ DEMELLO - Wednesday, April 10, 2013
For the American contingent in Liga MX it was all about sharing the points as all five teams with Yanks on the roster drew their opponent, while Marco Vidal and BUAP fell in second division action.

Club America 1 - 1 Puebla

Damarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco both started for Puebla as La Franja were able to withstand intense pressure to come out of Estadio Azteca with a point Saturday.

Without American Ventura Alvarado in the team, America dominated the game. Despite their clear advantage it was Puebla who struck first in the 62nd minute.

Alberto Medina played a ball into the box that Felix Borja met first and put in the bottom corner. The lead lasted all of 10 minutes before America pulled level.

Miguel Layun blasted a shot from distance into the bottom corner. Despite over 70 percent of the possession and three times the amount of shots that was the only goal America could muster.

Beasley played 75 minutes in the draw while Orozco went the length.

The result sees both teams stay where they were in the standings with America third and Puebla 14th, but only three points out of a playoff spot.

Tijuana 0 - 0 Santos Laguna

Edgar Castillo, Joe Corona, and Tijuana outshot Herculez Gomez and Santos by 20, but were unable to put one past Oswaldo Sanchez Saturday.

It was Santos that put the ball into the back of the net in the 38th minute, only for the header to be called back on a suspect offside call.

Tijuana had a chance in the 53rd minute with a melee in the box after their free kick hit off the crossbar and out. Somehow no one could put the ball in from only a few yards out and Santos survived.

For Tijuana, Castillo and Corona both got the start, with the latter coming off in the 78th minute. Gomez only went 56 minutes before he was subbed off for Candido Montes.

Both clubs remain in playoff spots with Santos in forth with 23 points and Tijuana in eighth with 18.

Tigres 0 - 0 Leon

In a surprising result, Jose Torres and leaders Tigres were held at home against strugglers Leon.

Leon was almost ahead after 27 minutes but goalkeeper Enrique Reyes came out to make a great stop on Yovanny Arrechea who was through on goal.

Tigres were left fuming late in the game when Danilinho went done in the Leon box, but instead of a penalty, he got yellow carded for a dive.

Jose Torres played 74 minutes before he was replaced for Jesus Manzo. Jonathan Bornstein was unable to make the 18.

Tigres remain in first place with 29 points while Leon sits in 17th with only eight points so far from 13 games.

Pumas Morelos 2 - 0 Lobos BUAP

Goals in each half were enough for Pumas Morelos to take the points from Marco Vidal and BUAP in Ascenso MX action.

Pumas took the lead through a Michel Vasquez penalty in the 32nd minute. The BUAP keeper was able to get a hand to the attempt, but the hard and low shot slipped through for the goal.

The lead doubled in the 76th minute through former Puerto Rico Islanders forward Sean Fraser. BUAP couldn't respond and Pumas Morelos left with all three points.

Marco Vidal went the distance for the club, which remains in third place despite the loss.

Pumas Morelos remain in seventh place, now with 17 points.

Along with Jonathan Bornstein for Tigres and Ventura Alvarado for America; Greg Garza, Stevie Rodriguez, and Alejandro Guido did not make this weekend's 18 for Tijuana. In that same match, Benji Joya also failed to make the match-day squad for Santos.
