Carlos Bocanegra and Racing Santander were unable to get on the score sheet as Girona handed them a costly defeat at home.

Girona 1 Racing Santander 0

Bocanegra made his third consecutive start and coming into Saturday's match, had not allowed a goal in over 180 minutes.
A 64th minute strike by attacker Felipe Sanchón was all Girona needed to get their fifth win in six matches. It was the ninth goal of the season for Sanchón, who broke through the stingy Highlander defense to silence the crowd in downtown Santander. He snuck past several ball watching defenders and headed in a rebound for the game's only goal.

The loss sees Racing back into the relegation zone in 20th place with 35 points. They trail Hércules on goal differential and Real Murcia, who is safe right now, by one point.

Next week doesn't get much easier for the Highlander's, as they must travel to fourth place Villareal to take on the Yellow Submarine. Over the past three weeks, Bocanegra and Racing have faced first place Elche, second place Girona and third place Alcorcón.

Bocanegra and Racing have eight matches left in the 2012-13 season as they fight for survival in the Segunda División.

Notes

Oguchi Onyewu did not make the 18 as Málaga beat Osasuna 1-0 on Saturday.
