RECAP: MANCHESTER UNITED 3-0 A. VILLA
JOHN KRETLOW - Tuesday, April 23, 2013
Manchester United clinched the Premier League title in their victory over Brad Guzan's Aston Villa.
The American ‘keeper went the distance and recorded three saves, while Eric Lichaj did not dress for the Villains.
Knowing that a win would clinch the title, United played inspired soccer from the very start and had the game essentially clinched by the half hour mark.
Robin Van Persie was the hero of the day, scoring all three United goals.
The Dutch international notched his first goal in the second minute as he knocked in a Ryan Giggs ball from close range.
Van Persie got his second goal in fashion, as Wayne Rooney's long range pass was volleyed into the back of the net in the 13th minute.
Then, in the 33rd minute Giggs unselfishly fed Van Persie for his third goal of the day, even though the Welshmen could easily have gone for glory himself.
With four games left in the season, Villa is just three points above the drop zone. They take on Sunderland at home next weekend at home.
