Despite breaking his leg in January in an FA Cup match, US U-20 defender Will Packwood has been offered a new contract by Birmingham City.

Packwood, 19, has been with Birmingham City ever since he was only 14. He has since progressed through every youth level at the club before breaking into the first team regularly this season.

He is currently in the final year of his contract but Birmingham City has decided to offer him a one year deal as he recovers.

"Will was offered a contract to extend his stay at Birmingham city another year," a club spokesman told YA.

In addition to missing the rest of the season and likely the start of the 2013/14 season, Packwood will also miss this summer's U-20 World Cup in Turkey. He had been a regular this cycle for head coach Tab Ramos.

Packwood has made great progress since his injury suffered against Leeds United in the FA Cup. After a series of surgeries, he has recently tweeted that he has begun to walk unassisted.
