US U20 midfielder Danny Garcia has signed his first professional contract after coming to terms with FC Dallas.

Garcia, 19, was previously with the University of North Carolina but took the most recent semester off to train with FC Dallas although he went on an extended trial with Club America in March.

"We have signed Danny Garcia to a homegrown contract," a Dallas media representative told FV today.

The forward is currently in Turkey with the US U-20 team as it prepares for Friday's World Cup opener against Spain. Garcia was surprised when he learned he made the World Cup team last week.

"I was thinking, ‘I probably won't make it because I'm a college player,' but once I found out I was going to the World Cup, I got really excited," Garcia said from World Cup camp. "The first thing I did was call my parents."
