MATHEW WAGNER - Monday, July 8, 2013
Anthony Avalos made his first start in more than one month, and Zarek Valentin and Bodø/Glimt continued their domination in the Adeccoligaen.
Stabӕk IF 1 - 1 Vard Haugesund
Anthony Avalos and Vard recorded a point at Stabӕk on Sunday, a team that is still undefeated at home.
Avalos made his first start for Vard since May 20 and played 85 minutes, although he started on the left wing instead of his usual position on the right wing.
Vard looked the more dangerous team throughout the first half and got an early goal in the eighth minute, thanks to a combination between Eirik Ulland Andersen and Ahyee Aye Elvis, with the latter putting the back of the net.
Still, Stabӕk managed to find the equalizer before halftime. In the 43rd minute, Bjarte Haugsdal ran down the right wing and sent in a cross that Mads Stokkelien met in the box and headed home for Stabӕk.
Neither team could find the match-winning goal in the second half, meaning both teams took one point from the match. With the tie, Vard held onto 14th place, six points away from safety at the halfway point in the season. The team returns to action on July 28, when it hosts Hødd.
FK Bodø/Glimt 4 - 0 Fredrikstad FK
Zarek Valentin and Bodø/Glimt dominated 10-man Fredrikstad in the second half during Sunday's match.
Valentin went the distance at right back for the home team.
Despite controlling much of the first half and getting help with a straight red card given to Fredrikstadt's Lars Grorud in the 30th minute, Bodø/Glimt couldn't find the back of the net and break the match open.
That changed in the second half, as the Adeccoligaen leaders opened the flood gates. The first goal came in the 62nd minute, when Dane Richards sprinted past two defenders and placed his shot into the far corner of the net.
In the 68th minute, Vegard Braaten took advantage of an Ole Strømsborg mistake by trying to head it back to his goalkeeper. Instead, it put Braaten in a one-on-one situation, and while Fredrikstad goalkeeper Jon Masalin managed to get a knee on the ball, Braaten's shot still went in the back of the net.
Braaten made Fredrikstad pay once again for another defensive mistake off a pass. He drilled a 22-yard shot into the lower right corner of the net for the goal. Braaten completed his hat-trick in the 84th minute, when Ulrik Berglann got around his defender and set up Braaten for an easy goal in the box.
With the win, Bodø/Glimt maintained its six-lead atop the Adeccoligaen standings. The team returns to action at Ullensaker/Kisa on July 28.
Steve Clark and Hønefoss face Brann on Monday at home, with the American goalkeeper expected to take his usual position between the sticks.
Mikkel Diskerud was unavailable for Rosenborg for the team's 1-0 win over Lillestrøm on Sunday because of international duty.
Joshua Gatt didn't dress for Molde in the team's 3-2 win over Tromsø because of a sprained knee.
Rhett Bernstein missed Mjøndalen's 2-1 win over Sandefjord on Sunday because of an undisclosed injury.
