Colorado left back Chris Klute's impressive start to the MLS season was rewarded as the Rapids officially purchased his contract from the Atlanta Silverbacks of the NASL.

Klute, 23, was loaned from Atlanta to Colorado on September 14, 2012 for a year but Colorado had an option to buy his contract. Today Colorado exercised its option to buy making Klute a full-time member of the Rapids team.

"Chris Klute's loan has become an official buyout," Klute's agent Namjoo Hashemi said on Wednesday.

Klute has played in 17 games this season for Colorado which sits in sixth place in the Western Conference. The Rapids trail fifth place Vancouver by just two points for the final playoff position in the West.

Colorado will return to action on July 17 when it hosts New England.
