ANDY SCHREUR - Friday, August 2, 2013
Greg Garza, Joe Corona, Edgar Castillo and Tijuana take on Morelia, Jose Torres and Tigres face Pumas and DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco's Puebla visit Chiapas this weekend in Liga MX action.
Club Tijuana - Morelia
The Xolos look to keep their unbeaten Liga MX record intact as they travel to third place Morelia. The Canaries are coming off a 2-1 win on the road over Tigres and are lead by Chilean striker Héctor Mancilla, who has two goals this season.
Garza has started both Liga MX matches so far for Tijuana and Castillo and Corona are both expected back in the lineup upon their return from the US National Team's Gold Cup run. Both American's played 21 minutes in Tijuana's 1-0 midweek victory over Pachuca.
20 year old Paul Arriola is expected to make the bench for the Xolos as well. He made his first appearance as a professional and recorded an assist in Tijuana's first match this season, a 3-3 draw with Atlas.
Ernest Nungary has not made an appearance for Morelia yet this season.
Tigres - Pumas
Jose Torres figures to feature in Tigres' lineup as they visit Pumas on Sunday night and will be looking for their first win of the 2013 Apertura.
Tigres have struggled scoring goals this season and have only managed one goal in three total matches (two Liga, one Copa Mexico). Pumas have been even worse this season, managing to go goalless in three matches, including two scoreless draws in league play.
Both teams, however, are stout defensively and the first team to score will likely take three points in this match.
Johnathan Bornstein has made one appearance so far in Tigres' 1-0 loss to Cruz Azul Hiladgo in Copa Mexico play but hasn't made the 18 in league play.
Puebla - Chiapas
DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco return from helping the US Gold Cup team to an undefeated championship run and both figure to be in the starting lineup when Puebla travels to Chiapas on Saturday night.
Orozco has had a busy week since returning to Mexico, signing a new contract with the club after initially joining the team on loan from San Luis. Beasley played the second half on Wednesday night as drew with Santos Laguna 1-1.
Puebla and Chiapas have both started off the Apertura with four straight draws, including one each in Copa Mexico play. Both clubs will be looking for their first win late Saturday night.
Benji Joya, Daniel Cuevas and Santos Laguna host Querétaro Saturday night. Neither have made the 18 for Santos yet this season.
Ventura Alvarado and Necaxa host Zapatepec on Saturday.
Adrian Ruelas and Veracruz face Cruz Azul also on Saturday.
Alonso Hernandez and Monterrey face Toluca this weekend. Hernandez was subbed in and played 12 minutes against Pachuca last week in his first appearance this season.
