Club Tijuana blanked Pumas, Tigres beat Monterrey in the 100th Derby and Puebla played to a scoreless draw with Veracruz.

Club Tijuana 2 - 0 Pumas

Edgar Castillo and Joe Corona started and went the distance as the Xolos returned to their winning ways this weekend. Gregory Garza came off the bench for Fidel Martínez in the 83rd minute and Paul Arriola was an unused substitute.

It was Martínez who gave the Xolos the lead in just the 10th minute when he was left wide open off a set piece and headed the ball in from five yards. It's the Ecuadorian midfielder's second goal this season.

Tijuana would get the insurance goal in the 59th minute when poor UNAM defending again left players open in inside the six yard box. Richard Ruíz headed on a corner kick, which found Raul Enríquez, who beat two defenders and the goalkeeper to ensure the victory for the Xolos.

UNAM went down to ten men in the 75th minute when Candido Ramírez received his second yellow card, but the match was already well in hand by that point.

The Xolos next match is at Monterrey on August 17th.

Tigres 3 - 1 Monterrey

Jose Torres played 90 minutes as Tigres beat Monterrey in the 100th Clásico Regiomontano on Saturday night in front of their home fans.

Former US U-20 forward Alonso Hernandez was an unused sub for Monterrey.

Alan Pulido put UANL on top in the 10th minute when he rose above his defender and headed in a cross from Danilinho. Their lead would not last long, however. In the 22nd minute, veteran striker Humberto Suazo calmly tapped in his second goal of the season. Dorlan Pabón drew Tigres keeper Enrique Palos out of his net and the Chilean neatly put the ball away.

Pulido scored his second of the match in the 39th minute when a corner kick inexplicably found its way untouched to the back post and the young Mexican chested the ball down and struck a left footed shot past a diving Jonathan Orozco.

Lucas Lobos would add insult to injury for Tigres in the 81st minute when a wonderful bit of footwork outside the box beat his defender and seemed to surprise a flat-footed Orozco, who dove but was badly beaten from 15 yards.

Monterrey's Bernardo Hernandez was sent off for a straight red card in the 83rd minute as tempers in the bitter rivalry flaired. Alonso Hernández was an unused sub for the Rayados.

Tigres will travel to Santos Laguna on Friday night.

Puebla 0 - 0 Veracruz

DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco both started for Puebla on Sunday in their scoreless draw with league leading Veracruz. Adrian Ruelas did not make the 18 for the Red Sharks.

Orozco was subbed off in the 89th minute and Beasley played the entire 90. The best chance in the match was squandered by Puebla striker Alfredo Moreno, who missed a wide open net from four yards

Puebla had more chances and controlled much of the possession in the first half but were unable to break down the Veracruz defense. Late in the match, Puebla goalkeeper Jorge Villalpando was called into action and he made two big saves that guaranteed a point for the struggling La Franja, who are still looking for their first win this season.

Beasley, Orozco and Puebla host Chivas on Sunday.

Neither Benji Joya or Daniel Cuevas made the 18 as Santos Laguna and Toluca played to a 2-2 draw.

Ventura Alvarado did not make the 18 as league leader's Necaxa beat Zacatepec 2-1 on Friday in Ascenso MX play.
