Club Tijuana hosts Santos Laguna, Puebla welcome Cruz Azul and Tigres face off with Chiapas in Liga MX Apertura weekend action.
Club Tijuana - Santos Laguna
Five Americans could see action as the Xoloitzcuintles welcome Santos Laguna to the Estadio Caliente on Friday night.
The Xolos returned from Honduras where they defeated Victoria in CONCACAF Champions League play on Tuesday, a match in which American Paul Arriola had a goal and an assist.
Meanwhile, Santos have not lost this season and sit in third place in the Apertura standings and are lead by veteran striker Oribe Peralta, who already has five goals in four matches. Peralta scored twice last week in a 3-0 drubbing of Jose Francisco Torres and Tigres. He also scored twice in Mexico's 4-1 win against the Ivory Coast in New Jersey, two weeks ago.
Club Tijuana is still without strikers Herculez Gomez and Dario Benedetto, who are both recovering from leg injuries. Santos have not disclosed any injuries at this time.
Neither Benji Joya nor Daniel Cuevas have made the 18 in league play but Joya did make his first appearance of the season in a Copa MX match against Cruz Azul Hidalgo on Tuesday, which ended in a scoreless draw. Cuevas was an unused sub in the Copa MX match.
Puebla - Cruz Azul
DaMarcus Beasley, Michael Orozco and Puebla look to continue the goal scoring streak after last week's 4-2 win at Chivas, which was their first of the season. New manager Rubén Omar Romano got off to a good start in charge of La Franja.
Beasley and Orozco both played 90 minutes last week and both figure to start again. The American pair was held out of Puebla's Copa MX midweek loss to Correcaminos in anticipation of Sunday's contest with La Máquina.
Cruz Azul bring a two-match winning streak into this weekend, having beaten Chivas and Atlante back-to-back. They host Costa Rican team Club Sport Herediano on Thursday night in Champions League play.
La Máquina are paced by 24-year old striker Joao Rojas, who has three goals in six matches this season. Puebla will rely on Argentine strikers Alfredo Moreno and Gustavo Alustiza, who each have three goals this season.
Neither club has listed any injuries ahead of Sunday's match.
Tigres - Chiapas
Jose Francisco Torres and Tigres had won two straight matches until they ran into Santos Laguna last week, falling 3-0 on the road. UANL sit in 13th place at the moment and have only six points from five matches.
Chiapas has struggled this season as well, managing only one win thus far; a 4-2 defeat over Puebla. It has been the only match in Liga MX play where the Jaguares have scored more than one goal.
Torres played 90 minutes against Santos last week and will likely remain in the lineup on Saturday night.
Tigres defenders will focus on journeyman striker Carlos Ochoa, who, at the age of 35, is having a great season thus far, scoring four goals in six matches for the Jaguares.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Bornstein featured in two Copa MX matches and picked up a yellow card in a 0-0 draw with Cruz Azul Hidalgo.
Ventura Alvarado and Necaxa face Estudiantes Tecos on Friday night.
Alsonso Hernández and Monterrey travel to León on Saturday.
