Hertha Berlin and U.S national team central defender John Anthony Brooks is set to miss time after an elbow injury forced him to leave Sunday's game against Freiburg in the first half.

Brooks, 20, was subbed out of the game against Freiburg which ended 1-1.

"On Sunday against Freiburg, Brooks suffered a hyperextension of his right eblow and a forarm muscle tear," a Hertha representative said. "We expect him to miss two to three weeks."

Hertha currently sit in 10th place in the Bundesliga with eight points through six games.

Brooks earned his first U.S cap in August duringa 4-3 win over Bosnia. He was on the roster for the recent qualifier against Costa Rica but did not play. It is unclear at this point if he will recover in time for the U.S team's final World Cup qualifiers starting on October 11 against Jamaica and October 15 against Panama.

Euroman, sorry your conclusions are not based on what has been communicated. 1) JK agreed with Hertha before the match days to only have JAB with the USMNT thru the Costa Rica match, so he always was going to return to Germany after it; 2) JAB had to choose between USMNT friendly or German u-21 team knowing it would be one that would affect his long term ability to rep Germany, and he chose the US; 3) JK never forces a cap tie on a player, especially not a 20 year old, so this is opposite in some way of Chandler's situation where he was tied, and then had issues with representing the US - let's all make sure JAB is 100 percent on board before forcing his hand at what will be a lifetime decision.

Let's hope he is ok for Jamaica and Panama. If he is not, there are plenty of friendlies to get him fully into the team so that cap tying becomes a formality rather than a driver. In the meanwhile, Germany knows that JAB is in the US camp in more ways than one.

It's also unclear if he really wanted to play for the USMNT. He went home without being cap tied when we really needed a CB to set up. Goodson had to be called because either he didn't want to commit or JK didn't trust him in a big match. It looks like Brooks was only here to meet the guys, train and have more info to make a decision. Seems like Chandler all over again.
