Chuck Chijindu got the goal to secure Thor's survival as the Akureyri club took down IA Akranes on Sunday.
Thor entered the seasons second to last game one spot above the relegation zone with 18 points. Chijindu got the start at forward while Josh Wicks made the bench for the second game in a row.
Chijindu scored his decisive goal early, beating the IA keeper in only the second minute. His ninth goal, good enough for joint third on the leading scorer list, was by far his most important.
Last place IA attempted a comeback but as with much of the team's season, it ended up short.
For IA the loss only adds insult to injury as the team was already assured of relegation weeks ago.
The win brings Thor to 21 points in 2013 with one game remaining on the schedule. With 11th place Vikingur Olafsvik losing on the weekend the team only has 17 points with one game remaining. As a result Thor, thanks in large part to Chijindu, can't be caught and are guaranteed another season in the Urvalsdeild.
Thor finishes off the 2013 campaign Sunday traveling to face David James and sixth place IBV.
