BRIAN SCIARETTA - Monday, November 11, 2013
Jurgen Klinsmann announced the roster for the U.S national team's final games of 2013 today. While there were surprises, a strong group of players was names.
The biggest surprise was that four regulars in Clarence Goodson, Edgar Castillo, Brad Guzan, and all-time leading scorer Landon Donovan were injured and unable to play. In addition, Timothy Chandler's chances at the World Cup team have all but been eliminated after yet another omission despite playing well for FC Nurnberg.
The roster does include Nottingham Forest fullback Eric Lichaj who played under former coach Bob Bradley but has yet to appear for Klinsmann.
Also of note, Klinsmann elected not to bring in any MLS players whose teams were still alive in the playoffs. As a result, Graham Zusi, Matt Besler, and Kyle Beckerman were most notably left off.
The roster, however, does include John Brooks and Aron Johannsson would could be quickly integrated into the team after only deciding to play with the United States in August.
