Rubio Rubin might be one of the top American teenage prospects but his first professional preseason has hit a brief roadblock following surgery.
Rubin, 18, has been playing this preseason with Utrecht's first team but suffered a collision in Saturday's preseason friendly and was forced out of the game only six minutes after entering as a second half substitute.
The collision required facial surgery and initial Dutch reports suggested the Oregon native might have suffered a concussion although that is yet to be confirmed. It is unclear how much time Rubin will miss because of the surgery.
Long considered one of the top American teenagers in the sport, Rubin is an important part of the U.S. U-20 team and he enjoyed a standout performance in April's Dallas Cup.
