AUSTRIAN CUP THIRD ROUND DRAW
EXTRA TIME
DAVID SMITH - Tuesday, September 30, 2014
The pairings for the third round of the Austrian Cup were announced on Sunday evening, handing Conor O'Brien and Shawn Barry tricky tests against familiar division opponents.

Conor O'Brien and Wiener Neustadt were able to offset what has been a tough season with a dramatic penalty-shootout win over Admira Wacker last week to secure a spot in the third round.

For their efforts, they have been rewarded with perhaps the toughest draw possible, a trip to current first-place team Wolfsberger AC.

Wolfsberger have been a major surprise in the Austrian Bundesliga this season, surging to the league lead ahead of such heavyweights as Salzburg and Rapid.

They reached the third round by way of a narrow 1-0 win at then-last-place Ried, and could be in line to face another team in the league's cellar in late-October's round of games.

While things have not gone according to plan for Neustadt this season, they will certainly have hopes of pulling off the upset as they were one of only two teams so far this season to score a win against Wolfsberg.

Elsewhere in the draw, Shawn Barry and Linz were lucky enough to draw a fellow Erste Liga opponent, and will visit Kapfenberger SV.

Linz easily dispatched their fifth-tier foes Lankowitz, and they will face a familiar Kapfenberg team against whom they have already taken four points in league action this season.

Kapfenberg also beat up on lower-league opposition, beating third-level team Neusiedl am See by a 4-1 margin.

Exact dates and times have yet to be set for the games, but they will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 28 and 29.
