Rhett Bernstein and Mjondalen came away with a big away goal at Brann in the first leg of the promotion/relegation playoff final on Sunday.
Brann 1 - 1 Mjondalen
A goal from Mjondalen midfielder Vamouti Diomande was all the First Division side needed to give them a strong advantage going into the second leg of the playoff final against Tippeligaen side Brann.
More than 14,000 spectators were on hand at the Brann Stadium on Sunday to witness the first leg of what will be a nerve-wracking final between the two the sides.
After an uneventful few minutes in the first half, the Brann supporters received a shock in the 37th minute when Diomande fired the ball past goalkeeper Oystein Ovretveit to give Mjondalen the lead. A poor clearance by Brann forward Amin Askar landed at the feet of the Ivory Coast international who did not hesitate to take his chance from 16 yards out.
The goal got the home side pushing for the equalizer before the end of the first half, but they squandered on several chances.
Brann would finally get the goal they were looking for in the second half as Brann midfielder Kasper Skaanes put the ball in the back of the net, bringing the home supporters to rapturous cheers.
The equalizer did not deter the visitors as Mjondalen continued to push for another goal. However, they were unable to find it on the night as the game ended all square.
Bernstein got the start and played the full 90 for Mjondalen, earning Man of the Match honors.
The two sides will meet again on Wednesday in the all important second leg.
