Danny Williams scored his first goal of the season for Reading, but a last minute goal from opponents Sheffield Wednesday saw both sides share the points on Wednesday night.
A 90th minute strike from substitute Modou Sougou denied Reading their first win of the season as both teams settled for a 1-1 tie at Hillsborough.
Williams got the start and played the entire 90 minutes for the Royals.
Reading entered the game looking for their first win of the season in order to get their promotion campaign from the English Championship up an running.
The first half saw Sheffield Wednesday start off strongly, but Reading would pick things up later on. However, both sides headed to their respective locker rooms with a 0-0 score line.
Reading would be the brighter of the two sides at the start of the second half and were rewarded with the first goal of the game in the 49th minute.
The German-born Willams collected a pass from teammate Orlando Sa and fired a shot inside the penalty area past Wednesday goalkeeper Lewis Price to give his side the lead.
As time ticked away, it looked as though Reading would walk away with the three points, but Sougou, who came on to the field for Wednesday in the 57th minute, pounced on a fumbled ball by Reading goalkeeper Jonathan Bond a punched into the back of the net to level the score.
After three games Reading now sit in 18th place in the standings on two points.
