RECAP: MIDWEEK GERMAN CUP ACTION

John Brooks and Hertha Berlin were decimated by a strong Borussia Dortmund side on Wednesday as the Black and Yellows booked their place in the German Cup final.

Brooks started in central defense for the capital team, while Christian Pulisic, who scored his first goal over the weekend, watched all of the action from the bench.

It was an electric atmosphere at the Olympic Stadium, but the visitors would silence the crowd 20 minutes into the game when they scored their first goal of the night. Gonzalo Castro fired in his shot from distance after Marco Reus' effort was blocked.

The visitors were clearly dominating the game and should have scored more goals, but wasted several opportunities to do so until 15 minutes before full time when Reus extended Dortmund's lead as he buried the ball in the back of the net. Shinji Kagawa provided the assist.

Dortmund put the game on ice in the 83rd minute when Reus set up Henrikh Mkhitaryan for the easy tap in.

After crashing out of the Europa League to Liverpool, Dortmund will be hoping that they can at least get their hands on the German Cup to make up for their lost chance in Europe.

Dortmund will face Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich in the German Cup final on May 21 at the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
