Other leagues in Europe are on holiday, but the action continues in England over the holiday period with a number of Americans participating in games.

Ipswich Town 0-2 Fulham

Goals from Chris Martin and Ragnar Sigurdsson in each half helped the Cottagers to a win at Portman Road to keep them within distance of the playoff places in the English Championship.

Tim Ream started for Fulham in central defense and played the entire game.

The visitors dominated the game from the start and had several opportunities to take the lead. However, they would be rewarded in the 36th minute when Martin beat Ipswich goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski with a free kick just outside the area.

The Cottagers continued their dominance in the second half, but could put away the chances that were given to them.

Sigurdsson would finally get Fulham's second goal in the 78th minute when he headed in Stefan Johansen's corner kick.

The win moves Fulham up to eighth place in the standings with 36 points.

Reading 3-1 Norwich City

The Royals continued their push for the top two automatic promotion spots with a big win over struggling Norwich City at the Madejski Stadium.

Danny Williams made his return to the Reading starting lineup after serving his three-game suspension for a red card in the their game against Fulham.

Norwich had started the brighter of the two teams, but Yann Kermorgant gave the host the lead in the 37th minute when he headed in a free kick from Liam Kelly at close range.

The Canaries would find the equalizer in the 60th minute when Nélson Oliveira was left unmarked in the area to put away his shot after collecting the cross from Jacob Murphy.

However, Norwich would find themselves down a man in the 67th minute when Jonathan Howson was judged to have handled the ball on the goal line. Kermorgant's shot from the penalty spot crashed off the bar, but Garath McCleary followed up and headed in Reading's second goal.

Reading added their third in a minute into stoppage time when Callum Harriot took a pass from Jon Swift on the left and blasted his shot past Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy at the near post.

The win keeps Reading in third place with 43 points.


Eric Lichaj started in Nottingham Forest's 2-1 loss to David Wagner's Huddersfield Town.

Jonathan Spector started in Birmingham City's 1-0 loss to Derby County.

DeAndre Yedlin watched from the bench as Newcastle United suffered a 1-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday. The loss moves them down to second place in the standings.

Gboly Ariyibi started in Chesterfield's 3-0 loss to Rochdale.

Duane Holmes made an appearance late in the game for Scunthorpe United in their 0-0 tie with Bradford City.
