KENYA BROWN - Tuesday, January 31, 2017
Rubio Rubin has moved on from the Dutch Eredivisie to Danish Superliga team Silkeborg IF, FC Utrecht announced on Tuesday which is transfer deadline day.
The 20-year-old forward signed his first professional contract with Utrecht back in March 2014 and would go on to make his debut for the team in August 2014 in their 2-1 win over Willen II. However, through his time with the team, he suffered various injuries and could not find the form that earned him a spot in the starting lineup.
This season he did find his way back into Utrecht's lineup, but he would eventually be demoted to Utrecht II which plays in the Eerste Divisie.
The Oregon native leaves Utrecht having made 41 appearances and scoring three goals.
Rubin will now join Silkeborg which earned promotion to the Superliga last season after finishing in second place in the second division. They are currently in 10th place in the standings.
The Superliga is on its winter break right now, but Rubin could see his first action for the team when they face American midfielder Conor O'Brien and Horsens on February 18.
