Danny Williams and Reading boosted their chances of clinching a promotion playoff spot with a win over Leeds while Eric Lichaj and Nottingham Forest continued their fight against relegation.

Reading 1-0 Leeds United

Yann Kermorgant scored the only goal of the game to strengthen Reading's position in the Championship play-off spots with their win over Leeds United at the Madejski Stadium.

Williams started for the Royals and played the entire game in the win.

It was going to be a fight between the two teams both are in the playoff spots. But with teams like Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday and a few others still in the hunt, a positive result would go a long way to either one of them securing their spot as the Championship edges closer to the end.

It was rather quiet game with very few chances, but the Royals scored when it was needed as Kermorgant found the back of the net in the 21st minute. The Frenchman pounced on a loose ball at the edge of the area and unleashed a strike that Leeds United goalkeeper Robert Green would not stop.

Roy Beerens and Garath McCleary had chances to extend Reading's lead while Leeds pushed to find the equalizer, but the score line held for the Royals.

The win pushes Reading up to fourth place in the standings with 70 points.

Preston North End 1-1 Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest were able to steal a point at Deepdale Stadium as the fight for survival at the lower of the Championship standings got tighter.

Lichaj started and played the entire game for Forest.

With seven games now remaining in the season and one team already confirmed of relegation to League One, Forest are in the fight of their lives as Blackburn Rovers, Burton Albion and Bristol City try to avoid claiming one of the last two relegation spots.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 22nd minute as Britt Assombalonga raced on to a pass from teammate Zach Clough to slot the ball in the back of the net.

Forest could have made it 2-0 later when Ben Brereton found himself one-on-one with PNE goalkeeper Chris Maxwell, but he would be denied.

Aidan McGeady scored the equalizer for the host in the 52nd minute as teammate Callum Robinson set him up for the strike.

Forest sit in 20th place in the standings with 40 points.

Brad Guzan watched from the bench in Middlesbrough's 0-0 tie with Swansea City.

Tim Ream came off the bench in Fulham's 1-1 tie with Rotherham United. The Cottagers now sit in sixth place in the Championship standings, one point ahead of Sheffield Wednesday.
