Brad Guzan and Middlesbrough nearly beat Manchester City but had to settle for sharing the points while DeAndre Yedlin and Newcastle United still have a chance to win the Championship.

Middlesbrough 2-2 Manchester City

Gabriel Jesus' late goal prevented Middlesbrough from claiming all three points as both teams settle for the tie at the Riverside Stadium.

Guzan started in goal for Boro in the tie.

With the Premier League season winding down, Middlesbrough needs all the points they can get in order to avoid relegation. Meanwhile, Citeh needs the point in order to guarantee a top four finish for a place in the Champions Leauge.

The host opened the scoring in the 38th minute as they started a counter attack from their end. Steward Downing pushed the balled down the left before crossing it. George Friend got a foot onto the ball before it rolled over to Alvaro Negredo, who took a shot from the edge of the area that beat Manchester City goalkeeper Wilfredo Caballero and clipped the post before going into the goal.

The visitors would level the score in the 69th minute as Sergio Aguero converted from the penalty spot. However, it was a controversial call as it looked like Leroy Sane took a dive in front of Middlesbrough midfielder Marten de Roon.

Calum Chambers restored Middlesbrough's lead in the 77th minute with his close-range effort.

However, they could not hold on to the lead as Jesus headed in a cross from Aguero in the 85th minute to secure a point.

Despite the point, Middlesbrough remains in 29th place in the standings with 28 points.

Cardiff City 0-2 Newcastle United

The Magpies may have guaranteed automatic promotion back to the Premier League for next season, but they still have a chance to end the seasons as champions of the Championship as they took all three points at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Yedlin started for Newcastle in the win, which means they and Brighton will fight it out in the last game of the season to see who walks away with the trophy.

The first goal was not scored until the second half when Christian Atsu found the back of the net in the 55th minute. The Ghanaian forward struck with a curling free kick.

Isaac Hayden sealed the game for the Magpies 10 minutes later with a long-range strike that Cardiff goalkeeper Allan McGregor could only watch sail into the goal.

Newcastle remains in second place in the standings with 91 points - one point behind leaders Brighton.

The Magpies will finish the season with a home game against Barnsley and hope that Aston Villa can knock off Brighton to bring the trophy to St. James' Park.

Fulham 1-1 Brentford

Fulham secured their place in the promotion playoffs despite sharing the points with Brentford at Craven Cottage as fellow promotion chasers Leeds United could only muster up a tie of their own against Norwich City.

Tim Ream started for Fulham and played the entire game.

The Cottagers scored the game's first goal in the eighth minute when Sone Aluko sent in a through ball the released Ryan Sessegnon on the left and he crossed it over to Tom Cairney, who put it away from close range.

Nicholas Yennaris leveled the score for Brentford in the 38th minute when teammate Konstantin Kerschbaumer set him up to take a strike that ended up in the top corner.

Fulham had several chances to retake the lead, but Brentford goalkeeper Daniel Bentley was on top of his game as he made a number of saves to keep the game tied up.

Fulham remains in sixth place with 77 points. They will wrap up the regular season at the weekend with a game against fellow playoff qualifiers Sheffield Wednesday.
