RECAP: WEEKEND JAPANESE ACTION
RECAPS
EXTRA TIME
KENYA BROWN - Tuesday, May 9, 2017
Daniel Schmidt was back in goal over the weekend for Vegalta Sendai, but they were no match for FC Tokyo as the capital team walked away with the win.

Vegalta Sendai 0-2 FC Tokyo

Two goals from Yoshito Okubo on either side of the half helped FC Tokyo to a comfortable win over Vegalta Sendai at the
Yurtec Stadium.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 21st minute when they were awarded a corner kick. Sendai failed to clear the ball from the area, which allowed Okubo to send a powerful half-volley back towards goal, leaving Schmidt flat-footed as he watched the ball hit the back of the net.

Sendai was not deterred and tried hard to find the equalizer. Both Hirotaka Mita and Kazuki Oiwa had decent chances, but they came to nothing.

The host's efforts to level the score were dented in the 57th minute as Okubo scored his second goal of the day. Kosuke Ota sent in a powerful free kick that Schmidt got his hands on. However, the ball bounced off the crossbar and the former Japanese international was there to pounce on the rebound and punch the ball into the goal.

Sendai tried desperately to get back into the game, but some fine saves from Tokyo goalkeeper Akihiro Hayashi kept them at bay.

The loss leaves Sendai in 13th place in the standings with 13 points.
