United States national team head coach Bruce Arena has submitted his 40-man preliminary roster for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup set to start on July 7.

The roster is mix of regulars, returnees, and new faces who will be looking to make the final 23-man roster that must be submitted by June 27.

Some of the new faces earning a place among the 40 are Jesse Gonzalez. The FC Dallas goalkeeper, who can play for either the US or Mexico, will be looking to settle his international future once and for all. Fellow goalkeepers Joe Bendik, Bill Hamid and Sean Johnson will also be looking to make the final roster as well as veterans Brad Guzan and Tim Howard.

Eric Lichaj and Jonathan Spector are on the roster for the first time since being frozen out by former national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann. Matt Miazga makes it on the roster after an excellent season with Vitesse in the Dutch Eredivisie.

The midfield consist of 19 players with wunderkind Christian Pulisic leading the pack. Joe Corona has been added to the roster along with fellow Club Tijuana teammate Paul Arriola. The suprise addition to the preliminary team is Kenny Saief. The Israeli-American, who was born in Florida, had expressed interest in playing for the national team and after a good season with Belgian Jupilier League team KAA Gent, he has earned spot.

Among the forwards, Juan Agudelo, C.J. Sarpong and Dom Dwyer make the roster as well as Chris Wondolowski.

The team will begin training camp for the Gold Cup on June 25 in Nashville, Tennessee, before heading to East Hartford, Connecticut for a tune-up game against Ghana on July 1. They will then return to Nashville for Group B opener against Panama on July 8, before heading to Tampa, Florida, to take on Martinique on July 12. Their final group game will be on July 15 against Nicaragua in Cleveland, Ohio.
