US national team midfielder Kenny Saief will have to wait a while to set foot on the field again as it has been reported that the Israeli-American will undergo hernia surgery.
The 23-year-old is expected to be sidelined for up to seven weeks.
The news puts a dent in the ambitions of Saief who was looking to make an impact for the US during the Gold Cup. His absence will also see him miss all of the preseason for his club team KAA Gent in Belgium's Jupiler League. The timeline would see him make a return in early September.
Saief, who made his first appearance for the US in their friendly against Ghana, had successfully completed his one-time switch with FIFA to play for the US last month.
