Rubio Rubin is heading to Mexico as he has signed a deal with Liga MX team Club Tijuana after much speculation that he was close to making the move to Major League Soccer.

The Oregon-born forward makes the move south of the border after becoming a free agent.

Rubin was on an upward trajectory in 2014 when he signed his first professional contract with Dutch Eredivisie team FC Utrecht. However, injuries would hamper his development and he would find it difficult to earn playing time.

The 21-year-old would go on to stints at Silkeborg in the Danish Superliga and Stabaek in Norway, but could not find the form to earn a new contract with either team.

Rubin has most recently been with the US national team at their annual January camp and played in their 0-0 friendly tie against Bosnia and Herzegovina last month.

Tijuana has been known to have a host of Americans on their books. Currently, Michael Orozco, Alejandro Guido, and Fernando Arce, Jr. are with the team. Other notable players that suited up for Los Xolos are Joe Corona and Paul Arriola.

The team currently sits in third place in the Clausura standings.
