John Brooks and Wolfsburg are 90 minutes away from securing their Bundesliga status as they came away with a comfortable win over Holstein Kiel in the first leg of the pro/rel playoff.

Wolfsburg 3-1 Holstein Kiel

Goals from Divock Origi, Josip Brekalo and Yunus Malli helped Wolfsburg gain the upper hand as they won the first leg in the playoff against Holstein Kiel at the Volkswagen Arena.

Brooks would get the start for Wolfsburg in central defense as the team will now look to keep their place in the Bundesliga.

The host got things going in the 13th minute when Origi found the back of the net when the Belgian pounced on the loose ball following a save from goalkeeper Kenneth Kronholm.

However, Kiel were determined to keep the game close and scored the equalizer, and a critical away goal, in the 34th minute when Kingsley Schindler one-timed his shot past Koen Casteels following a low cross from teammate Dominick Drexler.

The rest of the game would belong to Wolfsburg and they retook the lead in the 40th minute through Brekalo as his volleyed effort came off the hand of Kronholm and went into the goal.

Malli extended Wolfsburg's lead in the 56th minute when Origi did well to maintain possession of the ball and release the Turkish international with through ball, allowing him to get past Kronholm and tap the ball into the goal from close range.

The win gives Wolfsburg a big boost in their survival campaign as they will look to close it out on Monday at Holstein Stadion.
