Romain Gall has joined reigning Swedish Allsvenskan league champions Malmo as it was reported on Tuesday that the team completed the transfer from rivals GIF Sundsvall.

The 23-year-old leaves Sundsvall after having a very successful spring season as he scored six goals, making him joint top scorer among the team.

The moves comes as no surprise as there speculation that the Paris-born midfielder was getting interest from teams in the Netherlands and back home in Major League Soccer. However, Gall believes that the move to one of Sweden's top teams is best for his development.

"They're the best club in Sweden, so I feel like to further my career it's a good step to take, to then keep on developing and further my career," said Gall in an interview after putting pen to paper on a contract that will run until December 2022.

Gall has made huge strides in Sweden since having a less than stellar start while he was in MLS with the Columbus Crew. After playing on loan with the Austin Aztex in the United Soccer League, he was left looking for a team.

A move to Sweden and Nykopings BIS in the Third Division would eventually earn him a move to the top flight.

Gall will look to help Malmo advance up the standings as they had a rough spring seaon. They currently sit in seventh place in the standings with 19 points, trailing 11 points behind AIK.

The new signee could see his first action for Malmo when they face Brendan Hines-Ike and Orebro at the weekend.

Good move for him. Hope to see him involved with the USMNT this fall.
