Ventura Alvarado and Necaxa narrowly lost to Morelia while Joe Corona made another appearance off the bench as America blanked Monterrey in the latest round of Liga MX action.

Morelia 2-1 Necaxa

Gabriel Achilier's goal helped Morelia to the win and a move into the playoff spots as they overcame Necaxa at Estadio Generalisimo Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon.

Alvarado maintained his spot in the center of defense for Necaxa in the loss.

The host opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Diego Valdes collected a pass from teammate Efrain Velarde and netted his curling shot past Necaxa goalkeeper Hugo Gonzalez to give his team the lead.

It took until the second half, but Necaxa leveled the score in the 51st minute Brian Fernandez as they launched a counter-attack towards the Morelia goal, with Dieter Villalpando teeing up the Argentine forward to put away his shot.

However, the responded five minutes later when Achilier headed home Valdes's free-kick to claim the win.

Necaxa sits in ninth place in the standings with six points.

America 3-0 Monterrey

America was in pole position for the entire game as they came away with a comfortable win over Monterrey at Estadio Azteca.

Corona would come off the bench in the 69th minute for the capital team in the winning effort.

The host scored the first goal of the game in the 23rd minute when Roger Martinez took a pass from teammate Mateus Uribe rounded two defenders and put his shot past Moneterrey goalkeeper Marcelo Barovero.

Bruno Valdez doubled America's lead in the 50th minute, with Uribe again providing the assist, this time from a corner kick that allowed the Paraguayan defender to send a powerful header into the back of the net.

America were then awarded a penalty in the latter stages of the game when Barovero brought Andres Ibarguen in the area. The Colombian winger then stepped up to put away his shot from the spot.
