US national team interim coach Dave Sarachan has called up 24 players for their upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Mexico, with Christian Pulisic missing out while John Brooks makes his return.
The team continues with its push towards youth and this time around it appears that there is nearly an even split among players from abroad and domestically - 11 coming from MLS.
Making his return to the team in center-back John Brooks. He has been missing due to injury, but has started the Bundesliga season strongly for Wolfsburg as he scored his first goal for the team in their opening game two weeks ago.
One player making his first ever call-up to the national team is Aaron Long. The New York Red Bulls defender has finally settled with a team after bouncing around the league for a few years, but it maybe unlikely that he will play any part in these friendlies.
Christian Pulisic was ruled out of these games as he recovers from injury at Borussia Dortmund.
While veteran players are still missing from the team, Sarachan stressed the importance of having the younger players come in to gain experience.
"For these matches against Brazil and Mexico, the theme remains the same in that we are using the opportunity against these high-powered opponents to continue building on the foundation that we've laid," said Sarachan. "We felt it was right to continue allowing this group to get valuable experience for the big picture that includes competitive matches in the future with the Gold Cup, Olympic qualifying and World Cup qualifying."
The US will face Brazil on September 7 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. They will then take on their regional rival Mexico four days later at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
