KENYA BROWN - Monday, November 12, 2018
Joe Corona made a rare start for America as his assist helped them to share the points with Santos Laguna while Michael Orozco and Lobos BUAP fell to league leaders Cruz Azul.

Santos Laguna 1-1 America

Second half goals from Julio Furch and Bruno Valdez saw both Santos Laguna and America settle for a share of the points at
Estadio Nuevo Corona as both teams have solidified their positions in the standings for the upcoming Liguilla.

Corona, who has primarily come off the bench for the capital team, was given the start by head coach Miguel Herrera.

After a first half, in which both teams had excellent scoring chances, things would finally open up in the second interval when Furch gave the host the lead in the 50th minute when met a corner kick from teammate Brian Lozano to head the ball past America goalkeeper Augustin Marchesin.

However, it would be a short-lived lead as America would find the equalizer 11 minutes later through a corner kick of their own. Corona's in-swinger into the area would be met by Valdez, who outjumped his marker to head the ball into the back of the net.

It was a back-and-forth game, but both teams seemed to be content with the tie as their one more weekend left until both head to the next stage in pursuit of the Apertura crown.

America sits in second place in the standings with 30 points.

Cruz Azul 2-1 Lobos BUAP

Leonardo Ramos' goal would not be enough for Lobos BUAP as Cruz Azul came from behind to claim all three points at Estadio Azteca to keep them atop of the standings.

Orozco started in the back-line for Lobos as the team's failure to qualify for Liguilla will allow them to prepare for next year's Clausura.

With their mind on the next stage, the host were given a sucker punch 20 minutes into the game with Ramos rose up to head in a cross from teammate Michaell Chirinos to give them the lead.

This woke up Cruz Azul and they pushed on to respond to their deficit.

Martin Cauteruccio leveled the scored in the 33rd minute when the Uruguayan forward volleyed his effort past goalkeeper Jose Rodriguez after an initial shot from Edgar Mendez was deflected into his path.

Cruz Azul then took the lead for good in the 42nd minute when Jose Maduena ran onto a low cross from Elias Hernandez to steer into the goal.

A good win for the leaders while Lobos will try to regroup and hope for better results in the Clausura.

Lobos BUAP sits in 14th place in the standings with 16 points.
