EXTRA TIME
KENYA BROWN - Tuesday, April 9, 2019
The second phase is now set in Scotland with Gboly Ariyibi and Motherwell headed to the relegation group following their shutout loss to Rangers.

Motherwell 0-3 Rangers

It was the Scott Arfield show as the midfielder bagged a hat-trick for Rangers in their comfortable win over Motherwell at Fir Park.

Gboly Ariyibi started the game for the Steelmen and played 65 minutes.

The visitors broke the scoreless deadlock in the 22nd minute when Jermaine Defoe threaded a pass to his Canadian teammate and he slotted it past goalkeeper Mark Gillespie.

Rangers doubled their lead nine minutes after the half-hour mark, with Arfield taking a pass from Ryan Jack in the area and the lifting his shot over Gillespie as it hit the back of the net.

Motherwell tried hard to get themselves back in the game, but it was just no their day as Rangers sealed the game on the hour mark.

Some poor passing from the host saw Defoe make an interception before dribbling the ball into the area and sending a low cross over to Arfield, who one-timed it past the goalkeeper.

Motherwell finishes the first phase of the season in eighth place in the standings with 43 points.

Notes

Timothy Weah came off the bench for Celtic as the league leaders settled for a 0-0 tie with Livingston. The Bhoys have all but wrapped up the league title as they head into the championship group.

Down in the Championship, Ian Harkes started for Dundee United as they had to share the points with leaders Ross County following a 1-1 tie.
