KENYA BROWN - Monday, September 21, 2020
Tyler Boyd and Besiktas tried to maintain their winning form, but they surrendered a goal late in the game to see them share the points with Antalyaspor.

Besiktas 1-1 Antalyaspor

Besiktas held on for a long period of time, but a strike from Antalyaspor's Gokdeniz Bayrakdar saw both teams settle for the tie at Vodafone Park.

Tyler Boyd started the game and went the distance for the Black Eagles as this result has seen them fall off the pace from league leaders and Istanbul rivals Galatasaray.

After scoring a stellar goal last week in the team's win over Trabzonspor, Boyd was looking to build on that performance as he appears to have no problem with his knee following a PCL injury.

And he appeared dangerous in the first eight minutes of the game when he sent in a cross from the left that was begging to to be hit for a goal. However, Necip Uysal's headed attempt went wide of the goal.

The host would eventually score the opener in the 33rd minute when Atiba Hutchinson's pass found Uysal who then headed the ball towards former Orlando City forward Cyle Larin, and he put it away from close range.

Besiktas held the lead going into halftime and did well to ward off pressure from Antalyaspor as the second half progressed.

The game should have been put away in the 74th minute when Boyd set up Larin with a golden opportunity to score the insurance goal. The winger ran on to a headed ball from teammate Jermain Lens and darted into the area. He then laid the ball of for the Canadian international to slot home. However, he sliced his shot wide of the goal to chagrin of his teammates.

This left the visitors with another opportunity to find the equalizer, and they did so in the 85th minute. Bayrakdar, who came off the bench, was fed the ball by Fredy and the Turk was calm and composed and his struck the ball past Besiktas goalkeeper Ersin Destanoglu.

A tough result for Besiktas, but they have no time dwell on it as they have Europa League qualification in the mid-week.

The team sits in fifth place in the standings with four points.

Eric Lichaj came off the bench again for Fatih Karagumruk to play 29 minutes in their 2-2 tie with Gaziantep.
