RECAP: WEEKEND DUTCH ACTION
RECAPS
EXTRA TIME
MICHAEL ADUBATO - Monday, February 8, 2021
The only Yank to take to the field was Luca de la Torre as Heracles came away with all three points in weekend Eredivisie action.

Fortuna Sittard 0-1 Heracles

Luca de la Torre went the distance for Heracles as they came away with a road win Fortuna, thanks to a first-half strike by Rai Vloet.

The game was pretty evenly matched by these teams that are now in 10th and 11th place respectively with both claiming 50 percent of possession and Fortuna registering seven shots on target, compared to the visitor's five.

The host's fired the first shot in anger after just two minutes but Mats Seuntjens' effort only found the side netting, unfortunately, the outside. With both teams pressing each other, there was really nothing for either keeper to do until the 38th minute when Fortuna's Yanick van Osch had to pick the ball out of the back of his net. Vloet latched onto the pass from his American colleague and made no mistake firing it past van Osch at the near post.

The goal put the taste for more in the mouths of the Almelo boys when Vloet picked out Delano Burgzorg's run. The winger however saw his shot turned away by van Osch. Another chance just before the half was again saved by the Dutch keeper.

Fortuna started the second half off strongly and Seuntjens had his second good chance of the game but Janis Blaswich in the Heracles goal reacted quickly and denied the Dutchman.

Van Osch was called into action a couple more times in the half but his team could do nothing to help him in terms of scoring themselves. Sebastian Polter hitting the crossbar meant that the equalizer was missed by millimeters. Another late strike ended up in the cheap seats as the final whistle sounded.

Heracles will have a tough game over the weekend when league leaders Ajax come to town.

Notes

Desevio Payne is still out of action with an unspecified injury, so missed FC Emmen's 1-0 defeat at the hands of AZ Alkmaar. The American's return to the field is still unknown and will most likely miss their next game at RKC Waalwijk on Friday night.

Ulysses Llanez is also sidelined with an injury, so missed Heerenveen's game against Vitesse Arnhem, where they won it 1-0 with a late goal. Next up they'll travel to AZ over the weekend after a midweek Dutch Cup game against Feyenoord.

Chris Gloster was probably happy to miss PSV II's game as they were pounded 5-1 by Roda JC over the weekend. They'll try to do better when Helmond Sport comes to town.
